My English is not as good as my Polish or Russian :-) ...but I try to explain something.
At the end of World War II Torun was freed by Russians. There was no heavy fighting on the street of Torun. Only some incidents. But this moment in history of our town is important! Many young Russian soldiers died in surrounding forests... . They were ordinary people - not politicians. - Torun remember.
We have some enthusiasts of history of our town. So they commemorate the end of war in Torun in their way. It was something like theatre on the street of Torun. - I thing good theatre..... .
(In this moment we "forgot" obvious fact that Red Army stay in Torun for the next 50 years.... . - In this moment it was not important.)

this is an interesting picture, very good photojournalism, but can you tell those of us outside Poland what anniversary is being commemorated?
I was going to ask the same thing. I love this photo. Is he friendly?
